It was Employability Day on Friday 17th June and this year’s theme was ‘We Fill Vacancies’. To celebrate the day our team at Barrow organised a series of activities and events targeting unemployed adults.
Haven Employability Course
Inspira have worked in partnership with Haven Holiday Park for many years to help them fill vacancies and employ people with the right skills and qualities they require.
Through The Key programme, our clients have the opportunity to attend a short course where we work on developing their individual employability skills. This consists of learning about Haven as an employer and the roles available.
“I have been working very closely with Inspira to help find employability in the local area through up skilling. Inspira have been a great help with ourselves. We have 350 vacancies here on site that we need to recruit for each year, so we need to go out and find different ways that we can recruit different candidates.
Inspira have been fantastic in changing people’s mindsets especially after COVID around the importance of getting into work, getting experience needed, and upskilling and giving people the confidence to get back out there. Inspira work with you as an employer and for you, to meet your needs.
Projects like The Key are vital in helping unemployed people back into work by providing intensive, practical coaching and pre-employment programmes, delivered in conjunction with employers like us to help meet our specific needs and to help get unemployed adults the help and support they need to move into jobs quickly.”
- Robert Madigan Browne – Haven People Administrator.
We concentrate on identifying transferrable skills, personal branding and creating a CV and cover letter which are tailored for the specific roles being were applying for. Through group work, interview skills are developed and practiced. All clients who complete the course are guaranteed an interview with Haven and on Friday Haven came along to Inspira’s centre at Barrow to conduct the interviews for all those who applied.
“One of the client s that received an offer on the day had worked hard through the week and had taken everything he learnt on board. He knew which direction he wanted to move in as he had a passion for catering and the role on offer. This is a great start due to the development opportunities they have available. He was so proud of himself and sent an e-mail thanking me for the support and help I had given him. It was a well-deserved outcome.”
- Amanda Green – Skills and Development Adviser, Inspira.
Enrolment day at JCP for KEY course with guaranteed interviews for Cleaning vacancies.
On Friday we also worked in partnership with JCP to hold an enrolment day which resulted in 8 people signing up for an employability course that started on Monday where participants will gain employability skills, a Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles and a guaranteed interview with several employers.
“Employability Day was a fantastic opportunity for DWP and Inspira to work together, supporting customers to enhance their employability skills and fill immediate job vacancies via Sector Based Work Programmes arranged with local employers”
- Judith Wilkinson, Partnership Manager, Department for Work and Pensions
In addition all Universal Credit claimants in Barrow and South Lakes received a journal message from JCP about the importance and benefits of undertaking a National Careers Skills Health Check through Inspira.
“Ongoing skills development can support you to become more employable and move into your next dream job or if you are already working, it can support you to continue to develop skills needed for your ongoing career development and progression.
As part of a 1 hour appointment with a National Careers advisor, they can support you to look at your short term and long term career aspirations and explore which skills you may already have and which you may need to develop to achieve these and become more employable. It can also help you decide what kind of jobs might be right for you based on your skills, motivations and interests.”
- Julia Winder, Area Operations Manager for Barrow and South Lakes, Inspira.
