Hardwork and determination pays off for Liam

In September of 2019, Liam Percival from Carlisle was not in education, employment or training. He needed something to focus on having finished school in July of that year. Throughout his secondary education, Liam admits that he found classrooms unstimulating and had attended various schools throughout his time.

Liam had a few qualifications but had not achieved his maths or English GCSE’s. He knew he needed to gain more qualifications but wanted to focus his career on something outdoors and physical.

Working with Joan, a Skills and Development Advisor at Inspira,
Liam joined their pre-employment programme aimed at developing his employability skills. Joan worked with Liam to create a CV, develop his interview technique, and how to work well in a team environment.

While undertaking the pre-employment programme an opportunity for a traineeship at Carlisle United Football Club arose. The traineeship was the perfect opportunity for Liam to enable him to gain qualifications and experience in a placement of his choice.

Joan and Liam applied for the position, was given an interview and accepted onto the course.

Liam flourished, he had 100 % attendance and ‘loved’ the placement at a furniture removal company - Country Removals. While on placement Liam was asked to assist in a move for the ex Member of Parliament Rory Stewart, traveling down and staying over in London and then back to Cumbria.

Liam showed determination and hard work throughout his placement, so much so that Country Removals offered him a full-time contract, which he will begin very soon.

Good work Liam, and good luck for the future!
